Anthropocene :
the period of time during which human activities have had an environmental impact on the Earth regarded as constituting a distinct geological time interval
Our effect on this planet is total. We have had an irrevocable impact on this living earth and for better or for worse, this is our world. We are a part of the strata now, we have left our indelible footprints in the skin of earth, in plastics and chemical creations, in grand cities and asphalt arteries dug into the land, in trash mountains and spilled oil, in migrations of flora, fauna, fungi and microbes to opposite ends of the globe. We have reshaped this world and continue to build upon its new form.
So what does it mean to be so aware of our past and our future? To know our impact as both a wondrous and destructive species. To know what it can lead to and still live the one finite existence we have on this incredible planet. To be alive requires us to be aware but also present, to find the wonder, here and now in this moment, the moment you are reading these words.
