Using a frame loom and a variety of yarns and fibers such as wool roving, silk, and wool locks, you will learn how to weave a variety of geometric and organic patterns and textures. The workshop will cover the basics of warping a frame loom and finishing off your weaving along with four different weaving techniques to bring your design to life. Take your felting to the next level in this felted floral arrangement class. We will be working with superfine merino wool to create multi layered flowers such as peonies, roses, and carnations and working with hand stitching within the felting process to make elaborate and realistic felt flowers from scratch. We will also learn how to attach wired stems to flowers and leaves to create a fully formed small arrangement of felt flowers entirely designed by you! Some experience with the wet felting process is recommended.
Create a colorful and highly textured tapestry weaving during this 5-hour specilty workshop. Learn the basics of warping a frame loom and plain weave along with a series of more artful and organic stitches that create beautiful patterns and textures within the textile. Explore weaving with not only yarn but upcycled fabrics and wool roving to add variation to each piece. You will learn the process of the wet felting, three-dimensional wet felting and the process of felting over premade forms. This workshop will include some work that needs to be done before and after the workshop on the student's own time. You will receive instructions on how to create a last from recycled materials. (A last is a shoe form that will be custom molded to your feet so your slippers will fit you perfectly.) After the workshop when your slippers are perfectly dry, you will be able to add a sole to your slippers if desired. Those instructions and materials will be given to you at the workshop along with a demonstration so you can complete that task at your convenience. Whether your ornaments hang on a “Charlie Brown Tree” like ours, or dangle around your doorways and dining room chandeliers, ornaments are one of the reasons we love winter!
Fiber artist, Mallory Zondag, will show us how to create bold pattern and swirling colors using some of the Studio's hand-dyed local sheep wool! We'll start with a recycled foam form and layer on thin layers of wool to sculp a lovel little ornament to brighten your own space, or give as a special gift.
We’ll have an opportunity to talk about sourcing and processing wool, natural dyeing, and the role felting can play in contemporary artists’ work. This will be a fun class with lots of room for creativity, experimentation and good conversations! There are two session times to pick from, an afterschool time and a later evening time. We hope you can make one of the classes!

We will work with wool roving to sculpt a wooly version of a pet or favorite animal to hang in your home or give as a gift. All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary to participate. Mallory Zondag is a local mixed-media artist who travels the Northeast teaching felting, weaving and stitching.

Day one will dive into the basics of wet felting, creating flat fabrics, learning how to create and use pre-felt and mosaic techniques to create the beginning of your felted painting. The afternoon will focus on needle felting and using it as a tool to blend color, create fine lines, define form using color theory and more to bring your painting to life. Day two will focus on felting as a three dimensional medium, learning how to wet felt a hollow vessel and using a variety of techniques to add texture, form, and detail to your sculpture.
